Everybody who knows a thing or two about Porsches is sure to know of the legendary Porsche 959. It was a massively advanced car when it was launched in the 80's, and was the fastest production car in the world until the release of the Ferrari F40. Everyone and their mothers wanted to drive one, and some famous owners included Don Johnson, Martina Navratilova, Daley Thompson, Boris Becker, and most famously, the founder of Microsoft, Bill Gates. The story of Bill Gates' 959 is one that stands out. But before we get to that, we need to rewind a few years.
Given Porsche's success today, it's easy to forget the company was on the verge of bankruptcy back in the early 1990s. In fact, Porsche's annual sales had fallen from over 50,000 units in 1986 to 14,000 in 1993, and only 3,000 of those sales were in the U.S. Among the chief causes for this decline were a faltering U.S. economy and Porsche's bloated production process. The latter of which was steadily driving prices higher at the worst possible time.
We had a lovely customer part exchanging a well documented Jaguar XF 2010. The customer Mr Askew first came into our dealership on Monday 13 January 2020 to view the car, unfortunately the vehicle was not on site as it was having MOT, Service, Front and Rear Brake Pads changed.
We did a PDI, Major Service, purchased a Wind Deflector and Delivered the Porsche 911 to Mr Meade in Chippenham.
